Notes:
"During the latter part of the 19th Century and well into the 20th, audiences on both sides of the Atlantic couldnt get enough of William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Works like HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado packed people into theatres in a way that would have impresarios nowadays rushing to the pair with an open cheque book. To this day their songs are the most performed musical works in the English language. There's nothing else like it and it's time to celebrate the best of British comic opera again. Marcus Marriott, Musical Director of the Gala Ensemble is a firm believer in that, "It's the beauty of the music, it's phenomenally written and the melodies stand up alongside any composers today. I think itis great to have this revival of this old British art form and to show that true singing is still there." This debut album from the Gala Ensemble five exciting young singers - is both a great introduction to the music of G & S for the newcomer and a refreshing new recording for those whose collections feature more vintage works."
